    First Peek: Pixels (2015)

It’s Sandler versus aliens versus some computer game characters. Really? This 2015, Columbia Pictures treat us into a near future time when some classic computer games will become reality. Pixels, based on a 2010 internet short film of the same name by Patrick Jean, will give us a good laugh and adventure out of some familiar digital icons.

Based on the newly-released trailer, the impending catastrophe is actually NASA’s fault. Back in 1982, they sent a time capsule into the outer space in the hopes of establishing peaceful communications with extra-terrestrial life. The capsule contains images and footage of Earth life and culture, including some classic arcade games. However, the games which include Pac-Man and Donkey Kong are interpreted oppositely. The aliens attack the Earth using the games as models for their assaults. President Will Cooper then calls his childhood best friend, 80’s video game champion Sam Brenner, now a home theatre installer, to lead a team of old-school arcaders to defeat the aliens and save the planet.

Movie casts include Kevin James as Pres. Cooper and Adam Sandler as Sam Brenner. Sandler’s team include Josh Gad, Peter Dinklage, Michelle Monaghan and Denis Akiyama. Directed by Chris Columbus, Pixels will hit cinemas on July 24, 2015.
