The Danish Girl is
a biographical drama film based on the David Ebershoff’s 2000 novel of the same
title. It revolves around the intriguing love story between Einar Wegener
(Eddie Redmayne) and Gerda Wegener (Alicia Vikander) in the early 1920s
Copenhagen. After standing in for a female model, Einar rises to prominence and
becomes the first recipient of male to female sex reassignment surgery. Their
marriage remains solid until a childhood friend, Hans Axgil (Matthias
Schoenaerts), enters the picture.
The movie was screened in the main competition section at
the 72nd Venice International Film Festival and later shown at the
2015 Toronto International Film Festival. Directed by Tom Hooper, the film is
scheduled for a limited release on November 27, 2015 by Focus Features.
