Oscar-nominee Jake Gyllenhaal is back on screen for a heart-stopping sports drama film. To be released by The Weinstein Company, Southpaw is about the rise and fall of a boxer.
Based on the newly-released trailer, Gyllenhaal plays Billy
Hope, a boxer who is on his way to prominence and prestige. But as he almost
reaches the top, an incident changes everything. His life suddenly falls apart.
Widowed and troubled, he must fight to get back the one thing that give him
reason to live.
Rachel McAdams also joins Gyllenhaal in the film as his wife
Maureen Hope, newcomer Oona Laurence as daughter Leila Hope, and Forest
Whitaker as Titus “Tick” Wills. Directed by Antoine Fuqua, Southpaw will open on July 31, 2015.
