The film is based on the 2010 Copiapo mining accident in
Chile and its aftermath. When the gold and copper mine collapses, 33 miners are
trapped underground. Over the course of 69 days, rescue teams will do
everything to save every trapped miner.
The film stars Antonio Banderas as Mario “Super Mario”
Sepulveda, who sent videos to the rescuers to notify them about the miners’
condition. Released date for The 33
is yet to be announced.
